History of Maji Safi Group
Two locations. One mission.

Maji Safi Group was founded in 2013 to promote health and disease prevention in rural, underserved communities in Tanzania.
Our programming is guided by a philosophy of community-led development, allowing programs to be adapted by and for the benefiting communities to meet their own unique needs. Stakeholders are engaged in the ownership and sustainability of all projects and interventions, from expressing desired needs, planning proper implementation, and taking part in meaningful evaluations. Our mostly female Community Health Educators (CHEs) are at the center of this participatory development model. They serve their own communities as liaisons between the communities’ needs and MSG’s resources. CHEs are the face of MSG and bring a historical, cultural, and language specific perspective to the services and interventions provided.
To further achieve community-led ownership, MSG partners with essential and respected government institutions at the district and regional levels as well as essential host-community institutions, like schools, hospitals, and professional/civic groups.
Tanzania

Based in the Mara Region of Tanzania, MSG TZ operates disease prevention interventions and programs. Through hands-on education, rural residents learn how to prevent WASH-related diseases and live a healthy lifestyle. Our educational approach succeeds through active participation of residents. Program participants learn the importance of preventing disease and go on to teach their families and neighbors about the benefits of their newfound WASH practices.
All aspirations for developing Tanzania hinge on an empowered people. Through sustainable models of education, treatment, and prevention, community members gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of public health.
United States

Based out of Boulder, Colorado, MSG US focuses on fundraising, spreading awareness, and handling the organization’s grant making procedures. We also visit schools, universities, clubs, and churches to teach about the worldwide WASH crisis and encourage social consciousness and global citizenship.
