As the small droplets from people infected with COVID-19 spread and wreaked havoc throughout our interconnected world, Maji Safi Group added this virus to the list of diseases we educate about in rural Tanzania in particular and East Africa in general. With the world in the middle of the pandemic, our work became more important than ever to help protect some of the world’s most vulnerable populations and health care systems!

From the beginning, Maji Safi Group was in a unique position to help battle COVID-19 as we had over eight years of experience educating about the importance of disease prevention through behavioral change, and we had helped the Tanzanian health authorities fight cholera outbreaks in the past. In cooperation with local health officials and community stakeholders, we used and continue to use our established capacity to spread the word quickly about vaccines and variants to hundreds of thousands through radio shows, hotlines, and social media.
